OOS Rate

Out-of-service rate — the percentage of FMCSA roadside inspections that result in an out-of-service order, meaning a vehicle or driver was found to have a violation serious enough to prohibit continued operation until corrected. National average OOS rates are approximately 20.72% for vehicles and 5.51% for drivers (2024). A carrier with an OOS rate significantly above the national average has a documented pattern of serious safety violations.
